The exact course dates are Sept. 28, Oct. 5, Oct. 12, Oct. 19., & Oct. 26.

This five-week online course, Emotionally Intelligent Nonviolence, takes our nonviolent practices to a deeper level.

Emotional Intelligence has a variety of definitions but is generally understood to mean "the ability to monitor one's own and other people's emotions, to discriminate between different emotions and label them appropriately, and to use emotional information to guide thinking and behavior". The ability to understand our own and others emotions can sharpen our interpersonal skills for nonviolent living.

This course will be facilitated by Robert Ferrell whose study of Emotional Intelligence is based on the book of the same name by Daniel Goleman, in addition to the books Emotional Agility by Susan David and Emotional Intelligence 2.0 by Bradberry & Greaves.

The course will strengthen our emotional resilience in challenging situations and sharpen our capacity to respond with peaceful agency. We will explore all levels of emotional life – body, brain, mind and environment plus the skills of the Welcoming Practice.

Understanding our Emotional Intelligence will help us answer some basic questions about the nature of our own responses to violence such as:

  • How do we respond to violence without being violent?

  • How do we respond to hate without becoming hate?

  • Can we oppose injustice without becoming oppositional?

This course will help you understand that the only way to create a calm peaceful outer world is to first create a calm peaceful inner world. Also, we can learn to respond to our emotions without becoming reactive. Emotional Intelligence is a tool to help us see that emotions are not bad or good, emotions are teachers. Join this course to find out what you can learn from your own emotions?

We are entering a historic time where our internal and external landscape will be put to the test. More than ever we must educate our emotional intelligence for the sake of our families and the Beloved Community we are wanting to create.
