Maloy, IA Stands Against Nuclear Weapons

by Brian Terrell

"Cries from every Corner! Sept 26, the UN's day to Eliminate Nuclear Weapons Fund Healthcare, Housing, Jobs, Green Economy"

Our neighbors Don Ray and Merce Maestre joined Betsy and me on our  corner to cry for the elimination of nuclear weapons. Maloy has lost ground since the 2010 census count of 29, so the four of us made up at least 13.79% of the town's  population, an event of historic proportions.  Merce, a recent immigrant  from Valencia, contributed to making our stand out a Manifestacio Global. The busiest corner in town, one car passed in the half hour we  held the street, friendly waves from rare strangers. Curious goats Frida  and Lily paid a visit as well. Social distancing is easy in Maloy and  there was a brisk breeze so we dispensed with masks, keeping some ready  in case someone stopped to talk with us. Don closed with singing "For What it's Worth" by Buffalo Springfield.
