Strategic Nonviolence for Peace Advocacy

  • Online Program Organized by Nonviolent Cincinnati - Partners with the Nonviolent Cities Project (map)

This is being organized by our friends who coordinate the Campaign Nonviolence Nonviolent Cincinnati, OH. Part of the Intercommunity Justice And Peace Center

In order to prioritize peaceful interactions, peaceful resolutions to conflicts, and nonviolent communication, we must prioritize peace education. As a core foundation of our mission and vision since 1985, IJPC continues the promotion of peace education through the new Strategic Nonviolence for Peace Advocacy certificate program. IJPC believes in the power of nonviolence as a strategy for seeking justice and challenging oppressive systems. Born from growing requests for peace education, nonviolence tools for activists, and a local resource for justice seekers, this program seeks to meet the needs of many in Greater Cincinnati and beyond who strive to prioritize nonviolent solutions and interactions each day.

The purpose of the Strategic Nonviolence for Peace Advocacy certificate program is to provide participants with a broad overview of nonviolence. The certificate program is designed to introduce participants to the philosophy and strategic theories that undergird nonviolence while also providing practical tools to enable participants to engage in nonviolence on a personal, interpersonal, and community level.

On the theoretical side, the certificate program will help participants gain a deeper understanding of the key principles underlying Mahatma Gandhi and Martin Luther King Jr.’s philosophy of nonviolence, and explore the concepts undergirding strategic nonviolence and why it works.

The certificate program also provides participants with tools to aid them in communicating nonviolently with friends, family, colleagues, and opponents, de-escalate conflict and intervening to stop harassment when they witness it. Participants will also be introduced to strategic thinking and planning of nonviolent direct action and the importance of caring for oneself in the midst of advocating for a more just and nonviolent society.
