Prescott Peacebuilders have planned two events to celebrate the International Day of Peace as declared by the United Nations.
On Sunday, September 19 at the library at 2:00, peace activists of the past century such as Jane Addams, Coretta Scott King, and Joan Baez and others will each be given a voice by local peace activists. They will speak in first person of their efforts to create peace and stop nuclear MADness.
This will be a unique opportunity to see that all of us are part of a history of passionate peacebuilders. We are not alone. Our presence now is part of the past and future of peace. Each of us can make a difference today if we do our part.
Masks are required. Social distancing will be practiced.
On Tuesday, September 21, Prescott PeaceBuilders will gather at the Courthouse Plaza on the Cortez and Gurley side for our sixth annual silent vigil for peace. The event begins at 6:30. Bring long scarves if you have them which will connect us, battery candles and PEACEFUL signs. Join with people around the world to celebrate peace.
We live in a frightening and confusing time. The Doomsday clock ticks and peace seems far away. The International Day of Peace on Sept 21 is a time for our global community to look for ways to live together peacefully. It is our chance to have a moment to stop fighting and to imagine a world of unity and international cooperation.
Join in these two events to experience hope. If there is to be peace in the world, there must be peace in the nations, peace in the cities, peace between neighbors and peace in the home. If there is to be peace in the home, there must be peace in our hearts. Make an effort for the promotion of peace in your heart and in the world
