Nonviolent Austin—Making Action Week Musical
On 9-18-21 we held a vigil for medical care and trauma healing with 25 people attending. Paul Finley played his amazing guitar music. Five of us activists held signs, including Rosie Davila's signs for trauma healing and nonviolent schools. We handed out a few leaflets of the written matter that went with the signs and interacted with folks visiting the state capitol from moon till 1:00. I hope we're getting people used to seeing us here and getting them thinking about the issues, and ideally associating nonviolence with the joy of music!
On 9-19-21 we held a vigil for racial justice, restorative justice, and against gun violence with about 50 attending. Sax player Alex Coke and harp player Elaine Barber regaled 7 Nonviolent Austin activists with beautiful music as we handed out literature and interacted with visitors to the state capitol. We are spreading music and good information...and love!
On 9-20-21 we had another good noon hour in front of the TX Capitol, with our own Jim Crosby and Lisa Rogers teaming up to keep the tunes flowing. Most passersby accepted the one-page fliers we handed them on today's theme of living wages and housing justice, and a passerby visiting from Denver stood with us, holding the earth flag. Tomorrow is the International Day of Peace, around which this Week of Action is based, so come join us! Noon at 11th and Congress.
