COVID 19 Peace Building in Uganda and Actions Week in the News

One more day into our Week of Actions, and reports are starting to come in. If you organized this year, be sure to document and share what happened with us here so we can share your hard work far and wide.

Edgar Buryahika, founder of Youth for Peace and Development Uganda, shared with us: “On Monday 21st Sept 2020, we (Youth for Peace and Development Uganda - YOPEDU) joined the international community in marking International Peace Day. We marked this day discussing "Peace building during and after COVID 19" relating this to the day's theme: Shaping Peace Together. Spreading a message of compassion, Kindness and hope especially now in this pandemic. And calling on all actors to work together against all forms of discrimination and hatred. Bringing out local examples to back up the discussion. This was on Tv West, a local based Tv station based in western but with a wide audience. On the build up to peace week I had another presentation on Radio analyzing youth involvement in violence during elections. Uganda is in an elections' period, party primaries going on and some youths are pointed out to be involved in violent activities. At YOPEDU we are committed to continue sowing the seeds of peace as we build a culture of Peace, LEAVING NO ONE BEHIND.”

Dennise Burgess of Castro Valley, CA reports, “International Day of Peace was sponsored by the Eden Area Interfaith Council and East Bay Regional Parks. Pax Christi Northern CA was a co-sponsor. It is usually held in an East Bayt Park, but this year it was a zoom event. (which is why I don't have any photos!). We had representatives from various faith traditions doing prayers, songs, talks, and ending with a peace pledge.”
