Wrapping up Day 3 of Action Week
Today is the International Day of Peace, and we’re already on Day 3 of the Week of Actions. Above you’ll see pictures from the Bike Ride for Peace and Unity in Chicago, the dedication of a peace pole in Oregon, and other early events. Be sure to check out the full list of actions to find one you can join as the week goes on!
Norman Ainsworth of Peace is Possible Australia shares: “In our campaign a feature article was published in our local newspaper, posters were displayed in the shopping centre, notice was placed in church Bulletin, a letter box drop and person invitations were given. Our Peace Picnic was great fun and attracted genuine interest by lots of people passing by.”
Patty of Placerville, CA shares how to bring kindness to teachers during action week: “A group of us were aware of problems teachers faced with distance learning, especially harsh criticism from community members (parents and others). Five of us came together a month ago to address this problem. We became Friends in the Foothills and decided to write individual letters of encouragement to 5 unified school districts in northern California. We drafted a letter of support and thanks and got individual super teacher cards. We enlisted support from others in our community who would sign the letters. We then contacted 5 superintendents of the 5 school districts and sent them a draft letter to get their input/approval. All were so positive and thought the letter was timely and that the teachers were really needing support. We stuffed envelopes and sent out letters individually hand-addressed in super teacher cards. One school’s district was 200 miles distant so we e-mailed the letter to the superintendent who agreed to send it to the teachers at her two high schools. We sent letters to 415 teachers. The letters went out on 9/21 and we let the superintendents know this was the International Day of Peace.”
