Campaign Nonviolence National Conference NOW MOVED ONLINE!
Dear Friends,
We hope that you and your family and friends are well.
Over the last few weeks, we have been hopeful that the coronavirus pandemic might show signs of diminishment and that it wouldn't affect the Campaign Nonviolence National Conference August 6-9, 2020. Unfortunately, it has become clear to us that, while things may improve slightly by August, there will still be a health risk for anyone gathering in large groups and so we have reluctantly decided to offer an online alternative for the safety of all rather than holding the in-person gathering at Albuquerque and Los Alamos.
In place of the Los Alamos and Albuquerque events we will hold a live online 75th anniversary commemoration of Hiroshima and Nagasaki on Thursday, August 6th featuring Dr. Ira Helfand, MD, a member of the International Steering Group of the International Campaign to Abolish Nuclear Weapons and recipient of the 2017 Nobel Peace Prize. Then on Friday August 7th, we will hold a live online nonviolence training with some of the best Pace e Bene trainers around. This will be followed by live online conference activities held on Saturday, August 8th featuring Rev. Richard Rohr, one of the world’s best-known theologians and religious leaders and founder of the Center for Action and Contemplation; Dr. Erica Chenoweth of Harvard University, one of the world’s leading social scientists and scholars on nonviolence; Kazu Haga, founder of the East Point Peace Academy and author of Healing Resistance: A Radically Different Response to Harm, along with numerous other speakers discussing peace and nonviolence. More details about both days will be announced soon including other speakers joining the online event. We are working hard to make the online conference just as exciting as the original.
Together, we can still remember this tragic anniversary of the U.S. bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki while also deepening our vision and skills for the nonviolent world we all wish to participate in. Nonviolence is clearly needed now more than ever. While we can't be together in-person, we hope you will continue to join us online this August to help further our mission for peace and nonviolence!
