Actions & Events You Can Join (From Anywhere) During Campaign Nonviolence Action Days

During the Campaign Nonviolence Action Days, Sept 21-Oct 2, 2024, over 4,448+ actions and events are taking place to build a culture of peace and active nonviolence, free from war, poverty, racism, and environmental destruction. 

Here are some that you can join in from wherever you are in the world. This list will be updated each week to include new actions.

Connect to Trees & Nature: Lake View Learning Center in Chennai, India invites you to join them in taking action to reconnect to the Earth by: 1. Hug a tree, a few participants hold hands and hug a tree any tree in their community. Then they sit in small groups and talk about a tree experience, climbing a tree, plucking fruits, trimming, uprooting and transplanting, or real time worship of trees like sthalavrukshmam. 2. Invite families and traditional elderly on how plants, herbs are used for taste, as medicine followed by food without fire. 3. Sit in groups to discuss how sun moon stars are part of every religion, every geography or history. 4. Document plants that need to be preserved in your neighborhood. (Anytime)

Water and Peace: Access Issues and Navigating Conflicts: Join Peace Week Philly for a talk on the connections between water access, peace, and violent conflict. How do water issues relate to conflicts between regions and countries as well as climate change across the planet? Global Week of Action For Peace & Climate: The Arms, Militarism & Environment Working Group invites you to the first annual Week of Action for Peace and Climate Justice. Groups and activists are addressing the links between war, militarism and climate injustice, and promoting grassroots action and policy making for peace and climate justice. Prayers for Peace Half Day Mantra and Meditation Retreat: During this half-day, online mantra and meditation retreat hosted by Sr. Sharifa Vernice Meytung, chant traditional Buddhist mantras focused on bringing individual peace, as well as peace for our families, our friends, our neighborhoods, the country, and the world. Japan Pilgrimage and the Call to Abolish Nuclear Weapons: Pax Christi New York State will observe the UN International Day of Peace, September 21st, from 1 to 2:30 PM on Zoom, with a report back from the pilgrimage to Hiroshima and Nagasaki this past March, up-to-date information on the status of nuclear weapons treaties and the current threat of nuclear war, and suggestions for action. A Virtual Conversation With Quaker Activist George Lakey: Third Act Faith hosts a virtual conversation w/ Quaker activist and author George Lakey who believes strongly in nonviolence and social justice. The Nonviolent Soldier of Islam: Abdul Ghaffar Khan - A Book Reading Initiative in Arabic: The second annual book reading and discussion is focused on nonviolence and Islam along with the life and activism of Abdul Ghaffar Khan, a contemporary of M.K. Active Bystander In Substance Abuse Situations: Join DC Peace Team for this online training in how to respond to situations involving someone acting out of substance use intoxication. An active bystander is someone who not only witnesses a situation but takes steps to speak up or step in to keep a situation from escalating. This training teaches effective skills for witnesses to assess, de-escalate, and diffuse a problematic situation. This practice session focuses on situations when an individual appears to be acting out of substance use intoxication and how to assess possible responses.
