Candlelight Vigil and Concert for Peace in Prescott, AZ

With over 5,040 actions around the world this Action Days, we can’t attend all the events folks have been working hard to organize. Fortunately, we can share the post-action reports folks send in—as well as any photos, videos, news coverage, etc.—right here with everyone. Prescott Peacebuilders did a fantastic job documenting their events. Scroll through the photos above, and read on below for more details.

Organizer Leslie Grady writes, “On September 21st, Prescott Peacebuilders gathered members of the community to hold a candlelight vigil on the International Day of Peace. With the candles forming a peace sign at the steps of the Prescott Courthouse Plaza, people heard speeches, and music provided by Jonathan Best, Meg Bohrman, and Granite Peak Unitarian Universalist Congregation. City Councilman Brandon Montoya read a peace proclamation in honor of the day. Each year, organizer Leslie Grady visits La Tierra Community School and presents lessons and discussions about peace with the 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders focusing on the UN theme for the year. Then the children write poems or essays on peace or the topic. Several are selected by their class and the students come to the candlelight vigil to read them at the celebration on September 21st.

There aren't many things that are perfect in this world, but our Concert for Peace was just that, filling our spirits with joy, peace, and community on September 24th. We had perfect weather for our concert under huge, old cottonwood trees providing wonderful shade. The musicians were outstanding—no two were similar. They had a great time performing. We had nearly 200 people all in the name of a peaceful and joyful community. Such amazing music and fun dancing, drumming and engaging with the performers. Couldn't have asked for a more perfect memorable day together!!”

Inspired? So are we! There’s still time to find an event near you or take action on your own. Check out our Action Days page for more.
