Though John Dear’s latest book tour has been canceled due to COVID-19, the Henry Nouwen Society did a podcast interview with him to discuss John’s history of living a nonviolent life. They examine where people find strength and resources when the world has ground to a halt, and how the lack of normalcy in our current situation leaves us space to redefine the new normal we want to create, including being nonviolent to the earth. They also talk about John’s many arrests, his friendship with Henri Nouwen, the gospel of nonviolence through a Gandhian/Kingian perspective, and his new book Praise Be Peace: The Psalms of Peace and Nonviolence in a Time of War and Climate Change.
