Board Member Pleads for Green New Deal

Long-time Pace e Bene board member Rev. Lennox Yearwood, Jr. rallied activists this week who were mobilizing for a Green New Deal on Capitol Hill in Washington, DC.

As Sojourners magazine reports, “More than 1,000 young adults risked arrest Monday by flooding the offices of Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.), Rep. Steny Hoyer (D-Md.), and Rep. Jim McGovern (D-Mass.).” Nearly 150 climate activists were eventually arrested as they urged the new Democratic leadership to back the Green New Deal, a proposal for legislative action on climate change.

Rev. Yearwood is president and CEO of Hip Hop Caucus and has served on the Pace e Bene board since 2007. Watch his impassioned speech below. Read Sojourners’s reporting here.

Rev. Yearwood arrived in time for the action by taking a red eye flight from Arizona, where he had been with Pace e Bene staff at our annual planning retreat this past weekend.

Thank you, Rev — and all who are taking action for environmental healing.
