Annie joins the Pace e Bene team as an intern from the Jesuit School of Theology at Berkeley, a member of the Graduate Theological Union. She is in her third year of studies in the Master of Divinity program, preparing for lay ministry in the Roman Catholic Church.
Annie is originally from Glendora, CA, a small town in Los Angeles county. She completed her undergraduate studies at Santa Clara University, where she earned dual degrees in Political Science and Religion Studies with an emphasis on Catholic Studies in 2005. At Santa Clara, she served the University as Student Body President. After spending a semester in Rome, Italy (yes, she can say “Pace e Bene” in a great Italian accent), she became intrigued by nonviolence in the Catholic tradition. She went on to research and write her thesis on the interaction of pacifism and just war theory in the Catholic Church.
After graduation, Annie spent a year in the best city in the entire world, Detroit, Michigan. She was a member of Jesuit Volunteer Corps, a program guided by the values of community, social justice, spirituality, and simple living. While in Detroit, Annie worked at Alternatives for Girls, a grassroots organization in Southwest Detroit that empowers girls and women, ages 0 to 100. After leaving Detroit, she served as a Resident Minister at the University of San Francisco. She loves dogs, sushi, gelato, the Detroit Tigers and quoting the television shows “The Office” and “Arrested Development.” She is passionate about issues surrounding justice in agriculture as well as Catholic identity and spirituality.
While at Pace e Bene, Annie collaborated with St. Columba Parish in Oakland. She also authored, Speaking Against Injustice: A Comparison of Fr. Louie Vitale’s Letter from Imperial Jail and Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s “Letter from Birmingham Jail”, an article published in the JSTB student journal, New Wineskins.
Annie is currently interning at Sacred Heart Cathedral Preparatory High School in Campus Ministry. Upon graduation in May, she hopes to find a job that makes her laugh everyday while also paying off student loans.
