I was born in Huntington Park, CA to a working class Mexican family of six in 1976. We later moved from South Central Los Angeles to Whittier, CA where I went to school. In 1994 I attended U.C. Berkeley and graduated in 1998 with a degree in English (emphasis in Multicultural and Anglophone Studies) and a minor in Creative Writing.
Currently, I am a 4th year seminary student at Pacific School of Religion/Graduate Theological Union in the Master of Divinity and Master of Arts in Biblical Languages programs. I am planning on graduating in May 2006 and going into full time ministry with the United Methodist Church (and will, hopefully, one day be ordained!). I feel particularly called to doing ministry among and with Latino communities, which is one of the primary reasons I decided to do “Hasta la Violencia a la Integridad” in San Quentin this past spring. I had never before worked with the prison community, but found the experience amazing. I am also serving as a Pastoral Intern at Temple United Methodist Church in San Francisco and working to develop a service ministry in the Latino community of San Francisco.
