Pace e Bene received the following letter from long-time peace activist Sherri Maurin about Fr. Louie.
Hello friends,
I just had a long talk with the priest who is Louie’s direct support in jail. He is able to visit Louie for an hour each Friday, and during the week keeps him comfortable by getting the sundries that he needs to stay a bit more comfortable, despite how cold it is there.
Louie is in a smaller, more segregated block, and is actually getting more rest than he would in the general population… He does see the larger group when he goes out on the yard for exercise.
He fasts periodically, and is doing some reflective writing. He has gotten lots of mail, and will respond as he is able to.
…Some of you have asked whether Louie will be moved. Bob indicates that it is impossible to know. Sometimes Federal prisoners, as Louie is designated, are transferred first to the state prison “up the road”—I think he said 100 miles; then eventually to the Federal prison closer to Atlanta. Other times they are kept in this remote jail, which is right near the Florida border. If his address changes I will definitely let all of you know.
Warm greetings and peace –
Sherri
