 Saint Clare’s House

One would be hard pressed to find a private home as close to the center of ecclesial — and often political — power as Chiara di Offreduccio di Favarone’s family manor in Assisi. This proximity was a symbolic and concrete manifestation of the aristocratic status that she and her family enjoyed in the early 13th century.

A sign on the home’s wall explains:

“In questo luogo sorgeva la casa doive nacque e passo the prima giovinezza S. Chiara” — “In this place stood the house where St. Clare was born and spent her early youth.”
