Pace e Bene Update

UC Berkeley Students Walk for Nonviolence Education

Six students from UC Berkeley connected with Pace e Bene for a four hour workshop on Nonviolent Action yesterday, March 29, as part of their spring break.

The students were participants in the “Walk for Nonviolence Education,” one of UC Berkeley’s Alternative Breaks Program.

The student-initiated walk was organized as a way for students to embark on a journey from violence to nonviolence in intentional community. The 25-mile walk through Oakland and Berkeley included nonviolent action and community service. It was also a fundraiser for the Peace and Conflict Studies department at UC Berkeley.

Wednesday’s workshop provided an opportunity for the students to reflect on their new learnings of nonviolence and nonviolent action. They also discussed how nonviolent action works and spent time looking at the example of the Nashville sit-ins, a student-led action, during the Civil Rights Movement.

The workshop was facilitated by Laura Slattery and Lindsay Martin.

If you are interested in supporting the Walk for Nonviolence Education, you can make a tax-deductible donation to ensure a vibrant future for nonviolence education on Berkeley’s campus.
