Nonviolent Peaceforce (NP) is a nonpartisan unarmed peacekeeping force composed of trained civilians from around the world. Nonviolent Peaceforce brings together over 60 Member Organizations from five continents and over 100 supporting organizations.
Pace e Bene has been an NP Member Organization since the inception of this project; Pace e Bene staffers Veronica Pelicaric and Ken Butigan took part in the first international gathering that launched this initiative in India in 2002. Now, five years later, NP is gathering again, this time represented by Pace e Bene Associate in Nigeria, Sr. Josephine Olagunju.
The conference — “Nonviolent Civilian Protection: Building the Global Capacity” — is being held 24-26 September 2007 in Nairobi, Kenya. The aim of this conference is to enlarge and reinforce the international community of organizations and experts in implementing, funding, organizing and studying unarmed civilian protection activities, to encourage greater deployment of protection missions, and to build and expand the global capacity for civilian protection and violence reduction.
