Inspired by speakers John Dear and Michael True at a peace conference sponsored by The Peace with Justice Task Force of the NH United Church of Christ , a working group formed to mobilize faith communities in New Hampshire to take nonviolent action against the war in Iraq.
On 5/25, fifty folks from different regions of New Hampshire, representing faith communities as well as secular supporters, met to discuss and organize a march and rally on 9/30/06 in support of the national Declaration of Peace campaign. Task Force chair, Rev. Gordon Crouch, introduced the Declaration action, and urged those present to be ambassadors, taking the Declaration back to their communities to inspire individuals and groups to sign the N.H. Declaration of Peace pledge, become endorsers, and help organize the September 30th march and rally.
L.R. Berger, Pace e Bene New England Associate and a member of the working group, facilitated an experience of nonviolence education during the second half of the gathering, offering Pace e Bene’s, “The Decalogue for a Spirituality of Nonviolence.”
As of 5/25, endorsers signed on in NH for this mobilization in September include The Peace With Justice Task Force of the NH Conference United Church of Christ, NH Peace Action, Pace e Bene Nonviolence Service in NE. Other groups are considering endorsement and participation thanks to the outreach of Rev. Crouch and others. For more information contact LR Berger.
