Gandhi & Jesus: The Saving Power of Nonviolence

A Talk and Discussion by Dr. Terrence Rynne

Surely this is a time that needs both Gandhi and Jesus’ wisdom.

Rynne’s “Gandhi & Jesus” is an original exploration of the life of Jesus and the teachings of Gandhi that puts nonviolent action at the very heart of Christian salvation.

Dr. Rynne discusses the threefold purposes of this book: “First, to share my understanding and appreciation for Gandhi’s way of satyagraha; second, in the light of Gandhi’s satyagraha, to present the thinking of four Christian theologians who have embraced and make credible a nonviolent Jesus; and third, to reformulate ‘what it means to be saved’ by making, not violent sacrifice, but nonviolent power, the root metaphor”.

Jesus taught us to love and forgive the people who do us wrong. He rejected violence in all circumstances. Is that message for us today? Gandhi, a Hindu, drew inspiration from the New Testament, Sermon on the Mount and Jesus’ life. What can this devout Hindu teach us about Jesus’ message?

Come and listen to Dr. Rynne as he discusses these and other questions.

The event is free and open to the public.
