Pace e Bene

 Join us on this Memorial day weekend presentation to contemplate the price of peace and exchange ideas about how art can be used as both disruptive and constructive social action for change.

The act of crossing the line in civil disobedience is presented as a metaphor in clarifying the intention of one’s artistic practice in working toward peace.  By ” loving the soldier and loathing the war,” this inclusive metaphor holds a space of honor for service women and men who walk the line for us, and how as artists we hold and cross the line to preserve their sacrifice.

Suellen Semekoski will show digital portraits - faces of the unreported that creatively graced the marches from various peace marches (Chicago, London, DC) over the eight years of the Bush reign. Their stories and ideas from Pace e Bene non-violence training are woven together to form what was once  described as ” a strange family album, where nobody looks alike but, I feel like I know these people”.

Suellen is an artist, art therapist, adjunct associate professor at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and has done the facilitator training at Pace e Bene non-violence service in Oakland. She is delighted to be joining Rock Paper Scissor Collective for this Memorial Day weekend!
