Celebrating Pace e Bene's First 20 Years!

Twenty years!image

In 1989 a handful of us gathered together to discern and to dream.

We discerned the need to challenge violence in our lives and our world; we dreamed of engaging in a process of transformation and healing.

imageWe discerned the need for new resources to strengthen the journey of peace and justice; we dreamed of discovering and sharing tools for nonviolent change.

We discerned the need for spiritually grounded movements for change; we dreamed of taking nonviolent action to help build a more just and peaceful world.

Pace e Bene was born from this discernment and this dream, and for two decades we have been working to translate this vision into reality.

Since April, my work with Pace e Bene has taken me on a national speaking imagetour. Across the country, I have been sharing about my recent peace mission to Iran, the work to end torture, and the emerging movement calling for an end to the Drone aircraft currently being used to carry out bombing runs over Pakistan and Afghanistan.  In city after city, I have been sharing Pace e Bene’s vision that every one of us has the power to make change.

This is a vision that we have been cultivating since our beginning.  And now, this September we will mark our twenty-year journey—and we invite you to join us!

September 25-27 we will gather in Las Vegas—where Pace e Bene began—to reflect on:

  • The nonviolent transformation of individuals and groups resulting from the hundreds of workshops we have led across the US and in Argentina, Nigeria, Australia, East Timor, Ireland, and Great Britain.
  • The empowerment of communities strengthened by the resource books and training manuals we’ve published, and
  • The effective nonviolent action thatnumerous groupswe’ve been working and acting with have taken to make peace, end torture, champion human rights, and challenge poverty.

More than celebrating the past, we will lay the groundwork for the future.  imageVincent Harding—author, activist, and co-worker of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.—will join us in Las Vegas. He will invite us to envision new steps for deepening and broadening our work for nonviolent change.  As part of this event, we will publish a Twentieth Anniversary commemorative booklet, which will highlight the milestones of our two decades of work. It will also feature a list of Twentieth Anniversary donors who are making it possible for Pace e Bene to continue to lead trainings, produce resources, and work with organizations and movements dedicated to change.

We encourage you to join with us in Las Vegas. And if you are able, we invite imageyou to help Pace e Bene build for the future by making a donation today. We will add your name to the Twentieth Anniversary booklet, and send you a copy once it is published.

Thank you for walking with Pace e Bene in the past—and as we move into our third decade!

This work is not possible without you.

Pace e Bene,
