Last night, I had a very interesting dream. I say interesting because for one, I don’t usually recall dreams and yet I remember this one rather vivdly. Typically, I wake up and thats the end of dreams. They are left behind in dream land. No recollection at all of the night time goings on in my head. Secondly, because the parts of the dream I can remember, all had to do with wolves. Wolves are a very loaded image, especially for the Pace e Bene Community. This is how the dream went:
I’m at a dinner party. There is a large number of us sitting around the table, having a joyous time. We are in a small home in the woods. Bright white walls, with large 360 views of the surrounding forest. There is nothing but tall trees around this secluded home.
While enjoying ourselves, (eating, drinking and being merry) we become aware that a pack of wolves has gathered outside. The party attendees are not threatened by their presence, or even by the awareness that the wolves are aware of us. In fact, we notice that the wolves are having a party of their own. Outside they are romping around playfully. Those of us indoors are happy to watch this. Both celebrations, indoors and out continue.
It was a very brief dream. I’m left wondering, what does it all mean?
Is my mind consumed with the image/symbol of the Wolf, as he always appears along St. Francis in our logo.
Or perhaps wolves are on my mind because we will be publishing Living with the Wolf: Walking the Way of Nonviolence in the near future.
It just so happens that last week, I heard a woman on the local radio station speaking about wolves. One thing she mentioned was that the leader of a pack, is typically the wolf who is best at initiating play. Additionally, scientists have found that the leader always has a lower resting heart beat rate than any of the others in its pack. I think this says a lot about those who they choose to follow. Perhaps us humans can learn something from them?
My dreams never offer any clarity, just an array of loaded images that are up for interpretation. Why in the world would I be partying alongside a pack of wolves? Can you offer an interpretation?
