Jesus for PM

choose a Lord, any Lord

God and Caesar: Then and Now. As Dorothy Day said “If we give to God what belongs to God, we will find there is not much left for Caesar.” Yet in many churches these verses will be quoted to reinforce the Enlightenment worldview that says the politics of love revealed in Jesus should be left our of how we think about the next election (or our daily lives!).

Dorothy Day being arrested againI’m convinced that dialogue with the scholarship of N.T. Wright is a fruitful way of recovering our prophetic witness — the way of the cross— political engagement without compromise. I think Tom Wright’s “then” is often better than his “now” but I admire his work incredibly.

N.T. WrightHere are some resources from N.T. Wright. Our Newbigin Network will be drawing on these so we can resist the spin of the ‘politics of coercion’ (that dominates the landscape) and encourages each other to witness to an alternative.
