Indigenous Welcome at our "Wedding Welcoming Love's New World"

The kids and I wait for Teresa and Tyson in Lockridge commmunity park

G’day! My first post as a married man. :) Back in the office today and it’s overwhelming all the message and love coming in from all over. Thank you so much. It’s wonderful for us that the day was so significant and even transformative for others as well. People have asked for different parts that have moved them. So here is Indigenous Elder Pop Allen Kickett’s welcome to Whyjug country and a few photos that people have sent us.

Grace and peace,

Teresa, Tyson and Jarrod

Pop Allen's welcome to Country

“First I’d like to welcome the first people, the indigenous population of this land whom I represent in giving this welcome.

My name is Allan Kickett,
But many round these parts people call me “pop”.
I’m a good friend of the Peace Tree Community
And together we try to make the hurt turn into healing round here.

As a Noongar elder I want to welcome you all to this place.
Everyone!
You are welcome here,
Where ever you come from,
or whatever you believe,
You are welcome here on this special day.

My people have been here for 50 thousand, 60 thousand years.
And the Spirit of the land has been here,
Where you are standing now,
Which is Whyjug country,
where my people roamed before colonization.

Missionaries reckoned they brought God but
He’s been here with us all along!
The missionaries didn’t realise,
Jesus is a black fella like me!

So today I welcome you,
And ask that you open your heart,
To the Spirit that has been with my people,
the Spirit of this land,
the same Spirit that is seen fully in Jesus
to be LOVE! Cause “God is Love.”

May the GOD OF LOVE and Peace bless everyone
and be with us

this special day. Amen.”

Teresa and Tys arrive!
