Indonesia Photo Blog Part 2

More pictures from the land of the Gods…

This is a picture of an interreligious dialogue in the parish of Sumber, on the the hills of Mount Merapi.  We met with leaders of the local villages, mostly muslim.  Locals shared how Christians and Muslims come together through a desire to save the environment.

On Mount Merapi, an active volcano, many outside companies are coming in and destroying the land.  They take the fertile soil and sell it for high prices.  This has long-lasting effects on the environment and the village economy, harming both.

This is in the Sacred Monkey Forest in Bali.  Yes, I did mean to type “Sacred Monkey Forest.”  We went inside a Hindu temple and were provided these Sarongs to do so.

Michael, one of my classmates, singing with middle-school-aged boys at the Kapuhan Pesantren.  A pesantren is a Muslim Boarding school.  Kapuhan is co-ed.  These boys were teaching us percussion with their chests.

Inside the Mosque at a University in Yogyakarta, on the Island of Java.

And finally, what Indonesian Photo Blog is complete without a Balinese sunset?  Gorgeous, I tell you.  Truly the land of the Gods….
